And So It Continues
By popular demand, (well, by Duskdog anyway) we continue with our loving homage to Emerald Dawn. I'm rather fond of both of the mini's, they were interesting, beautifully drawn, and had some good character moments.
But this particular scene is one of my absolute favorites.
Yes, in his own...unique way, Hal concludes that all of his problems are the fault of the sign. The sign is obviously EVIL!!! So, he flies headfirst into the sign. That'll show him...er...it! Unfortunately, in his zeal, Hal forgets one tiny insignificant detail.
Yes. It's a yellow sign.
Oh Hal.

Heh, heh, heh ... Yep, Emerald Dawn is definitely worth remembering, for all the bone-headed things Hal did. ;-)
My favorite Hal moment ever. All the great things he's done, all the terrible things he's done, all the stupid things he's done... none of them compare to purposefully flying headfirst into a yellow billboard and knocking himself out.
And the panel is perfect. A billboard with a hole in it, Hal lying unconcious, and not a single sound or thought-bubble to obscure it. You don't even have to read what came before to know what happened.
It's true, that may well be one of the greatest comic book panels ever.
It's certainly one of the funniest.
I think this panel is what made Superboy-Prime snap and start punching time in that special place he was at. Who says nothing good ever came out of the 1990s...
Superboy Prime has no sense of humor.
