Finishing up Guy Gardner Week

And so, we come to the end of my salute to my favorite Green Lantern. This isn't to say that I'm not terribly fond of ALL the Green Lanterns...yes, even Hal...but somehow, Guy is just my favorite. And not JUST mine! There are actually a fair number of crazy people who like hiim just as much as I do.

And really, when it comes right down to it, how can you NOT like Guy? Well, yes, there was the whole incredibly obnoxious behavior thing going on for a while. But in retrospect, it was really quite refreshing, considering what plaster saints most Superheroes were portrayed as being. Guy was...different.

And even as comics have gotten progressively darker in tone, he remains different. He's blunt, uncompromising, and painfully honest. He can be manipulative and even cunning when he has to be. He's not afraid of pumcturing swollen egoes, or manhandling sacred cows. He tells it like it is...whether you want to hear it or not.

He's not afraid of getting in touch with his feminine side.

He likes to take rookie's under his wing.

He's not afraid to walk around in public wearing only a pair of pants and some tattoos.

Unlike a LOT of superheroes, he actually has some fashion sense.

He likes animals.

He's fond of sports.

He has an interesting way of expressing himself.

He knows the value of a good breakfast.

He likes beer.

He's incredibly manly.

And that's enough for me.

Which just proves that he also has a highly developed sense of humor.

Seriously, RECHARGE was an incredibly good mini-series.

It WAS. I found it used in my comic store in trade format and I just LOVED it. That moment still is my favorite.

C'mon you're missing one of the greatest things about The Guy!He OWNS a Bar. He got a job. He got a job as a Superhero! A job involving alcohol, as a superhero! that's so cool! xD

Definetively my favorite DC character, and my second favourite comic character right after Hawkeye (though I must admit it's coming very close to be the first... it depends mostly on Blackest night)

Also, NOK

P.S. I really need to know where did you get the breakfast comic, I must learn more about that mouse! xD

What Ted conveniently forgets to mention in that mouse scene is that Guy's trip to brain-damage land is partly his fault, too. He's the one who tossed the ring over his shoulder like it WASN'T the most powerful weapon in the universe. Ah, Ted, I loved you so.

And can Pat Gleason sketch the Guy Gardner attitude, or what? Someday I'm going to manage to make a con that Pat is at and commission the heck out of that man.

Batman still takes the honors in that exchange: "Tell Guy he needs a shave."

Sheol, check out my archives for November 2nd and 3rd, 2007, where I did a blog on the 1998 Giant-Sized JLA Annual, which is where the breakfast scan is from. It was one of the stories, by Maguire and Giffen and DeMatteis, and it is hilarious. It takes place about the day AFTER Batman and Guy have their "one punch" moment.

Oh Duskdog, it was ALL Ted's fault. As were so many many things back in the day. And yes, Pat Gleason just draws the HELL out of Guy.

Aridawnia, well...Bats had to say SOMEthing. I still love the look on John's face.
