GL Uniforms

I have to admit it, I like Green Lantern uniforms. I call them a uniform rather than a costume, because that is what they are, the Lantern Corps is after all, a quasi-military, police force. There doesn't seem to be a lot of regulation, you can basically wear just about anything that you like, although there is a prototype, which is of course, Hal's suit. But basically, just so long as you are wearing your ring, and there is black and green in it, the Guardians are happy.

There are exceptions, I don't think that Jack T. Chance much bothered with wearing a proper uniform, and I don't believe that Leezel Pon CAN wear a uniform, considering that he's a sentient virus. But still, for the most part, they are a dapper-looking bunch, and the black and the green are famous throughout the universe.

I did like Geoff Johns interpretation of the uniform back in the beginning of the current series, as being generated by the ring rather than being actual cloth. The black portions of the suit are cold to the touch, while the green sections are hot,and apparently it helps to regulate their temperature while maneuvering through the vacumn of space. It is an interesting idea, and makes the Lanterns a little more "Other" worldly.

But I suspect that the change in Hal's uniform in particular may have had another thought behind it. In the old days, they had to use zippers...

...and there was that memorable episode in the Men's bathroom on Oa, that forever changed their approach to dealing with certain body functions.

And a tip of my hat to Scipio over at the Absorbascon for providing the scan!
