Buddies...No More?

Due to the new revelations on the last page of the latest issue of Green Lantern, I guess that seeing Hal and Guy be bestest buddies is going to be going by the wayside. Which is kind've a shame. Guy's been a good friend to Hal, although Hal would probably be the LAST person to actually recognize that.

There were a few glimmers here and there. For example, when Hal finally realized that Guy was the first person to forgive him for the whole Parallax unpleasantness, when Hal thought he would have been the last. Going off with him to Biot to rescue the lost Lanterns, and taking the blame and the punishment for it. Saving his ass time after time. Probably letting him drink for free in the new Warriors.

On the other hand, there WAS that little dig in the first issue or so of Blackest Night, when Hal was musing about how Guy was the only one with a viable love life, and he never thought that he would be jealous of Guy Gardner.

Ouch!

Nice one Hal! And you HAVE a love life, you self-important jackass! Er...um...I guess I'd better calm down.

So, instead of scenes like this...

guy and hal and j'onn

We'll be back to scenes like this...

guy and hal

It's going to be an interesting few months.

I dunno...I think Guy kicking Hal might be fun. :) Though I feel bad Guy's been sent off with Kilowog to the far reaches of the galaxy.

I notice that the title of the book is plural -- "Emerald Warriors". I assume that refers to Kilowog, too, since they say he's going to be a part of it?

What I'm curious about is if Kilowog will also know what Ganthet is up to, or if he'll be an unwitting participant. I can see Guy being the best choice of GL to do something very hard (like betray the Corps) for the greater good, but I think Kilowog would have a much harder time of it. He's good friends with Guy, of course, but the Corps is the only thing he has now that he's lost his entire race and the deep bond he had with them.

Hal trusts Ganthet, too. He isn't always HAPPY with Ganthet, but he trusts him almost unconditionally. I don't think Hal and Guy will ever be the best of buddies -- both are too competitive for that -- but Hal always ends up on Ganthet's side.

This is really such a bombshell, that I hardly know WHAT to think! Ganthet is just about the only Guardian that actually has a brain, and he's certainly the only one who was right about all the brouhaha. So I can't really see either he OR Guy deliberately backstabbing anybody.

On the other hand, teaming up with Atrocitus seems a bit extreme. Add to this the fact that John is apparently going to be going to Green Lantern Corps and teaming up with Kyle AND Ganthet. All sorts of things are brewing.

If John is going to be an Honor Lantern with Kyle, who the hell is allegedly keeping Hal in check?
