Some Actual Good News

I'm actually a bit torn. I had this great idea to mock Rush Limbaugh, because it seemed as though that might be a fun sort of thing to do. Seriously, the guy has been married FOUR times, and has NO children. I can only assume that his wives were using BIRTH CONTROL!!!! Either that, or he's shooting blanks, which isn't really very...manly, if you know what I mean. (wink wink, nudge nudge).

And Daylight Savings Time always makes me cranky. It was JUST getting light in the morning, and wham...back to darkness again. Is it me, or does DST seem to be going on for 10 months of the year now? So...I've been cranky.

But then I discovered THIS!

Photobucket

Rip Hunter! Boosters Baby Boy! This is coming out, and I MUST have it. Having artists like Alex Toth, Bill, Ely, Joe Kubert, Ross Andry and Nick Cardy is also a powerful attraction. That's a Nick Cardy cover by the way and I simply adore Nick Cardy.

So, I'm in a much better mood already. It's a good thing that I'm a woman and therefore fickle and flighty!

"Get behind the Time Sphere!"

I've lost count of how many times people have shouted that at me.

You lead an exciting life, Gary.

Actually, you would think that he'd have them SHIELD the Time Sphere! It's a lot less expendable than his buddies!

I'd imagine that BEING Rush Limbaugh is ample birth control on its own...

Gotta love how Rip can immediately tell at a glance that the weapons are *Babylonian* :-)

I figure that Limbaugh's wives just refused to have sex with him.

I mean, wouldn't you?

Maybe he's diseased. Because he doens't hold with condoms.

Sally, I really like your blog -- it's almost always fun and I appreciate your take on comics. But I do have to say that equating infertility with "unmanly" is not funny, and it's certainly not nice. It's cruel. Like prison rape jokes, it's a branch of humor that deserves to be left in the dark ages.

I can only imagine that if any of the Mrs. Limbaughs used birth control they didn't request someone else provide it for them.

I'm sure they didn't have to make any special request, because it was a standard perscription provided by Mr. Limbaugh's health insurance coverage.

Anonymous, I'm sorry if you think I was being cruel. Personally I think that Mr. Limbaughs comments about a young woman, who is a total stranger to him, were cruel as well. Also, nobody is asking for anyone to pay for their birth control. I would like to have it be covered by my insurance...just like Viagra is covered by insurance. But this point seems to be lost in all of the yelling.

Folks forget that Georgetown university has religious objections to birth control and that Ms. Fluke went there fully aware of that fact.

The President decided to try to force Georgetown to ignore their religious convictions but he 'backed off' and decided that the insurance companies had to pay for the contraception when the client objected.

Therefore, demanding that a company provide something without proper compensation IS asking someone else to pay for something for you.

It's kind of like going into a pizza buffet, reading the menu and paying for the buffet and then demanding they run next door and get you a bucket of chicken.

Granted, I'm getting tired of all the name calling on both sides (even if they are only 'entertainers' or 'comedians')

You do have a point, Dwayne. But on the other hand, if Georgetown wishes to impose its religious beliefs upon all of its employees and the people to partake of its services, then it shouldn't be taking tax money...it should be paid for BY the church. You can't claim religious priviledge and all the joys of being exempt from taxes...when you cheerfully take tax money.

And there are plenty of employers who aren't a religious organizations that might have some objections to what you do. Birth control pills have medical benefits OTHER than simply preventing pregnancy...Viagra has no other purpose, but IT is covered by insurance. Why is it fair to have one but not the other?

It's not.

Make Viagra not be covered anymore. Equality!

Ms. Fluke was not talking about birth control. She was testifying about the use of birth control pills to regulate actual medical conditions. I've heard the testimony. Plus, she was discussing a friend of hers.

As for Rip Hunter.... well... that cover is awfully familiar. I think I have that somewhere. Or I did.

It's a great cover. I don't know what happened to Rip in the whole 52 thing, or to a heck of a lot of OTHER people, for that matter...but dang it, I miss him.
